Fripp is still a massive influence on loads of people from Tool and Porcupine Tree to all the "live loopers" From Katy Tunstall to Andrew Bird to Matt Stevens(www.mattstevensguitar.com - very Fripp goes flamenco)

I seem to remember reading somewhere Fripp admitting that KC went into the studio with just the five songs, and that these proved to be insufficient to fill a normal vinyl album. The musicians therefore decided up-front to improvise at the end of "Moonchild" until the requisite forty minutes of tape were filled, and then stop! That said, still not a bad piece of work.

I've seen many glowing reviews of the McDonald & Giles album over the years, but don't own it and have never heard it. I've just ordered it via Amazon, so expect a review in short order!

Len, great review...I totally agree with what you said about Moonchild. The first few minutes are excellent but the song eventually delves into formless, avante garde guitar noodling. Of the other King Crimson efforts I really enjoy In The Wake of Poseidon, Red, Starless and Bible Black and Larks' Tongues In Aspic - all excellent efforts.

I bought this record in 1969 as well - mostly because I thought the cover was tres cool - and played it for all my pseudo-hip friends who believed The Moody Blues was the last word in electronic sophistication. Those were the days...

great to see this written about here- one of my favorite prog records and IMO the best Crimson record. it's a strange mix between the psychedelic sounds of the late 60's and the prog songwriting and arrangements of the early 70's. basically a near perfect album.
