PS the fade in the middle of "Up On The Ground" is a deliberate false fade and not a problem with the MP3!

More and yet more of interest! John Gustafson has one of the most involved and most interesting histories in rock: he's played bass and sung with an astonishing number of bands, some very well-known and some not so well-known - a true rock journeyman. I saw his immediate post-Quatermass outfit, then called Bullet but later rechristened Hard Stuff, supporting Deep Purple at the Colston Hall, Bristol in late '71 or early '72. He was playing with a couple of alumni of another of my favourite prog outfits, Atomic Rooster, namely John Cann and Paul Hammond, with a lead vocalist called Al Shaw to whom Gus and Cann harmonised closely. Good outfit, good support set. For much more on Gus, go here: http://dmme.net/interviews/gus.html .

The regard in which some lesser-known bands from long ago is held is very clear from the labour-of-love websites dedicated to them. To see a really splendid website on these one-album wonders with chronology, photos, interviews, artwork and an album review far more comprehensive than mine, go here: http://www.carolhynson.co.uk/quatermass/index.htm .

Where have I heard the name Mick Underwood before? I haven't heard of the Outlaws before so it couldn't be that (I've thankfully heard of Joe Meek before though)

Maybe it's Mick Fleetwood or Ian Underwood I think of...
