Absolutely brilliant. One evening back in 1984 I was knocking up dinner in the kitchen when my lady wife called me in to see this unknown band on The Old Grey Whistle Test on BBC2 TV. They knocked me flat and kickstarted my undying love for what came to be called alt. country. A superb album with Sweet Mental Revenge and Run Dusty Run as the absolute highlights. Thbeir later stuff never quite matched up to this debut, but God bless Sid Griffin for his tireless championing of Gram Parsons.

The first US Long Ryders shows in 21 years are in Atlanta on Jan 9-10! These are going to be the only shows and they are going to rock Atlanta. You can get advance tickets while they last at www.ticketalternative.com. You can get a 2 day pass for a discount instead of buying the 2 shows separately. The band is flying in from all over the world just for this great weekend!
Email me at : eastatlanta@comcast.net for any further details.

It was just Griffin and Shank that were in the Unclaimed. Laziness got the better of me.

Jason, thanks for the write up on this album. but you should know that Greg and Stephen were never in the Unclaimed. That was a totally different band that Griffin and Shank were in before the Long Ryders.

I love this album. 'I Had A Dream' sounds like a blueprint for Uncle Tupelo, 'cept it's more rocking.

Excellent choice!

Great record for certain. Their first EP, 10-5-60, is well worth tracking down. A bit more psych sounding than the debut LP but already a distinct Byrds / Gram feel. Apparently Steve Wynn was in an early Ryders incarnation, that would have made for some interesting sounds. America had some great underground / indie bands coming on the scene at around the time of this vinyl release.
